On the road: Karoo & Cederberg

After the lush and wet south coast from my previous blog post, the Karoo couldn’t be much more different. From Knysna you only have to cross the Swartberg mountains and you’re in an entirely different world. Here you find a harsh dry climate with desertlike landscapes under endless deep blue skies. Straight roads that go on forever with only a handful of towns in between.

The Cederberg wilderness is on the western edge of the Karoo. A true wilderness indeed, far away from everything and anything. We had a great sample of the beautiful Cederberg scenery on the 8 hour hiking trail to the remote Wolfsberg Arch. Finding our way through the narrow Wolfsberg canyons and passing strange rock formations and beautiful mountain vistas. Anyone that has been to the South West of the USA might see some similarities :). The Cederberg definitely was one of my favourite places on this trip through South Africa so far!
