The Netherlands

The Netherlands is geographically speaking a rather unusual country. About a fifth of the area of The Netherlands is located below sea level, parts of the country were reclaimed from the sea and pretty much all of the country was somehow formed by human hands. It's only in the south east of the country that the landscape gets somewhat rugged, here you'll also find the highest point of the country at 322.7m / 1059ft. The Netherlands is famed for it's exceptional light, seemingly softer than elsewhere, a light already observed by the Dutch master painters. Whether or not this Dutch light really exists or if it's a myth altogether, the light can indeed be truly exceptional in this low-lying country.
