It’s that time of the year again to review the past year! My photographic year that is. Even though I didn’t have as much time as previous years to shoot new work, I think I’ve added several all-time favourites to my portfolio in 2016. Spending time in some of the most iconic photography destinations definitely did help.
My personal favourites can be found in this 2016 Favourites album.
After many many years I finally made it to the Lofoten archipelago in Northern Norway in January. Scandinavia in general has been a go-to destination in winter for us for a couple of years and the Lofoten had been high on the list for a while. Clearly the trip to Norway had been a success, as we’re returning to Norway in less than 2 months :). I just couldn’t let a whole winter pass without heading north!
And then there was Northern Ireland in spring, beautiful Northern Ireland. With so many different beautiful locations in such a compact country it was a perfect destination for a full-on photography trip. And totally out of character, I was lucky enough to have an entire week of beautiful weather, from sunrise to sunset!
Another big highlight was the trip to incredibly diverse South Africa. Rainforests, deserts, mountains, wildlife and cities – a true photographers’ paradise! Came home with many good memories and many photographs that I’m still working on right now (more on that soon!).
I end the year with substantially less images from the home country than usual, but as with so many things, inspiration and creativity changes from day to day and from year to year. Apparently 2016 just wasn’t my year for photography in The Netherlands. But who knows what 2017 will bring. May it be a good one! Happy new year!
